Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has directed authorities to demolish Nasla Tower apartment building, and rejected federal government’s plea against the demolitions along Gujjar and Orangi nullahs.
During a hearing at SC Karachi Registry on Wednesday (today), the apex court ordered the demolition of Nasla Tower apartment block located on the intersection of Shahra-e-Qaideen and Shahra-e-Faisal.
The building has been constructed illegally as 341 square yards of land had been encroached upon, remarked the court citing a report submitted by Commissioner Karachi.
Barrister Salahuddin – builder’s lawyer, argued that the land for Nasla Tower was leased by Sindhi Muslim Society, to which the court responded that back then the society wasn’t even named so how could a lease was issued by it.
The court turned down builder’s request for review and directed the apartment building to be bulldozed immediately.
Furthermore, an operation is underway to clear Aladdin Amusement Park of illegal encroachments as the land was being commercially used without permission.
SC had directed directed authorities to clear Aladdin Park land of various commercial constructions most notable Aladdin Mall and Pavilion End Club at the premises.
Demolitions Of Encroachments Along Gujjar, Orangi Nullahs
Separately, the court also rejected federal government’s plea seeking to halt the demolitions of encroachment along Karachi’s Gujjar and Orangi nullahs.
In its plea, the federal government had urged to court to halt the anti-encroachment as it would result in a human catastrophe with more than 40,000 people being displaced.
The SC however, rejected the plea and directed authorities to continue the anti-encroachment operation along Gujjar and Orangi nullahs.
Additionally, SC has directed authorities to ensure the removal of all encroachments from government-owned land in Karachi, ordering Sindh Board of Revenue to submit a report in this regard within three months.
