K-2 nuclear power plant has been connected to the national grid boosting it by additional 1,145 MW of electricity.
Omar Ayub Khan – Federal Minister for Power, took to social media to announce the development that Karachi Nuclear Power Plant Unit-2 (K-2) nuclear power plant has been successfully connected to the national grid, on Thursday a day earlier.
K-2 nuclear power plant is expected to be inaugurated for commercial operation by May this year, whereas its operationalization will almost double the nuclear power generation capacity in the country.

The development comes as on December 1st 2020 last year, the loading of nuclear fuel onto the plant was started after getting a clearance from the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA).
The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) is currently operating six nuclear power plants in the country, two of which Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) and K-2 are located in Karachi, whereas other four nuclear power plants are at Chashma (Mianwali) with units 1-4.
