Singer Justin Timberlake opened up for the first time since his fellow pop star and ex-flame Britney Spears claimed in her forthcoming memoir, that she had an abortion while dating him in the late 1990s and the early 2000s.
For the unversed, Justin Timberlake, 42, and Britney Spears, 41, met as young cast members on television’s ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’ in the late 1990s and dated for about three years in their late teens and early 20s, becoming tabloid sensations, before splitting abruptly in 2002.
In her upcoming autobiography, ‘The Woman in Me’, Spears claimed that though the pregnancy ‘was a surprise’, she wanted to have the baby and agreed to an abortion at Timberlake’s insistence.
The pop star wrote, “Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”
“I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father,” she noted in the excerpts of the book, due for release on October 24.
Now, as per the latest developments reported by a foreign-based tabloid, sources confirm that Timberlake is ‘trying to distance’ himself from the memoir, to focus on his work and his wife and family. “He’s happy at home with Jess [actor Jessica Biel] and their kids and he’s focusing on new music. He’s in such a great place,” a source close to the President of Pop said.
Another insider also shared, “Justin will always be supportive of Britney and all of her endeavours, but he’s trying to distance himself from her upcoming book. It’s not something he’s focusing too much on in terms of anything she might discuss when it comes to their former relationship.”
“Justin and Britney dated so long ago, and he has a whole different life now. He’s focused on his family, his career, and moving forward, and he would like to leave anything that happened in the past behind them,” the person concluded.
