Government has reportedly offered Deputy Chairman Senate post to Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-F) in its bid to secure necessary support for the upcoming elections for Chairman and Deputy Chairman Senate.
As per details, Federal Minister for Defence – Pervez Khattak along with current Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, met with JUI-F’s Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and offered him the post of Deputy Chairman Senate.
It is imperative to know that JUI-F is part of the 11-party anti-government alliance titled Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is currently serving as PDM’s President.
Expressing his views on the development, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah has said that JUI-F is bound by the decisions of PDM and that PTI’s offer of Deputy Senate Chairmanship is government’s attempt at creating a rift between the anti-government alliance.
It is to be noted that PDM has decided to nominate JUI-F and PML-N candidate for Deputy Chairmanship and Opposition Leader slot for the upcoming elections of the upper house.
PDM has already nominated senior PPP leader and former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for the post of Chairman Senate.
