Maj (R) Azam Suleman – a BS-22 officer, has been replaced as Chief Secretary Punjab after a mere five months of service at the post. He has been replaced by Jawad Rafique Malik.
According to sources, the sugar and flour crises led to Azam Suleman’s removal, as he provided substantial evidence against Jahangir Tareen and others to the investigation team.
Reportedly, Azam Suleman’s resistance to political interference in administrative affairs led to his removal as Chief Secretary Punjab – a claim dismissed by CM office.
The name of Jawad Rafique – who has previously served as Lahore commissioner and Punjab health secretary, was finalized in a meeting which took place between Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar in Islamabad on Thursday.
Jawad Rafique is the fifth individual assigned to the post of Chief Secretary during the short time period of less than two years. His other predecessors include Yousaf Naseem Khokar, who served 13 months at the post, Akbar Hussain Durrani who served as the Chief Secretary in the caretaker government in 2018 elections.
Expressing his views on the development, newly appointed Chief Secretary Jawwad Rafique stated, “I have been entrusted with an important administrative responsibility and will work as a team with all officials.”
