Earlier, we reported about Zoe Saldana bagging her first Oscar, a best supporting Academy Award win for her performance in the crime drama Emilia Perez. Now, Saldana’s Avatar: Fire and Ash director James Cameron has opened up about her achievement. Speaking to Variety, Cameron said that Avatar team has always regarded Saldana as a “world-class performer.” The filmmaker also described the actor’s Oscar acceptance speech as “a noble reminder of what immigrant families bring to the US and to Hollywood.”
Taking the stage after the achievement, Saldana said, “I am the first American of Dominican origin to accept an Academy Award and I will not be the last. The fact that I got an Oscar for a role in which I got to speak and sing in Spanish is beautiful. I dedicate this award to my grandmother.”
Saldana’s upcoming projects include a voice role in Disney’s Elio, with Coco filmmaker Adrian Molina, and Avatar: Fire and Ash where she will reprise her role as Na’vi heroine Neytiri.
