Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has claimed that Jahangir Khan Tareen was behind the ousting of Asad Umar as Finance Minister.
In a startling statement, senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has revealed that it was Jahangir Khan Tareen, another senior PTI leader, who was behind the ousting of Asad Umar as the federal finance minister in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s cabinet.
Citing internal political quarrels among senior PTI leaders, Fawad Chaudhry stated that the party severely suffered due to internal disputes between Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Jahangir Khan Tareen and Asad Umar.
“We tried very hard to get their issues resolved, but they still haven’t,” he said.
Mr Chaudhry accused Jahangir Tareen of using his influence to remove Asad Umar as finance minister, and that as soon as Mr Umar was removed from his post.
The political void was then filled by bureaucrats and other people with no political background and know-how.

Expressing his views on former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto, Fawad Chaudhry stated that they both appointed ‘weak people’ to key positions – an issue that has not haunted Prime Minister Imran Khan, he noted.
It is to be noted that Asad Umar was appointed as Federal Finance Minister in 2018, a position he stepped down from back in April 2019. However, Asad Umar was again included in federal cabinet as Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms and Special Initiatives in November 2019.
