Pakistan on Thursday, remembers Pakistan Army’s Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed on his martyrdom anniversary.
Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) – Pakistan Army’s media wing on Thursday, paid homage to Nishan-e-Haider recipient Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed on his martyrdom anniversary on December 10th today for his supreme sacrifice in Zafarwal- Shakargarh Sector, 1971.
His fearless actions and indomitable courage inflicted heavy losses to the enemy & single handedly destroyed 16 Indian Tanks, said ISPR.
Sowar Hussain Shaheed
Born in Janjua Rajput family on 18th January 1949 in Dhok Pir Bakhsh (now Dhok Muhammad), Sowar Muhammad Hussain joined the 20 Lancers of the Armoured Corps in September 1966 at the age of 17.
He was a driver from the armored Corp but would take part in every battle his unit got engaged in during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. On 5 December 1971, in the Zafarwal-Shakargarh area, he delivered ammunition from trench to trench under heavy enemy fire.
On 10 December 1971, he took part in a dangerous mission and went out for reccee and to fight enemy patrols.
During reccee, he spotted an enemy tank and directed a recoil-less rifle crew towards the tank and then later was responsible for the destruction of 16 enemy tanks.
He was hit in the chest by a burst of machine-gun fire while exposing himself as he was directing fire from recoilless rifles, and was martyred. After his martyred his father proudly said “My son received bullets on his chest like a lion.”
For his unmatched devotion and ultimate sacrifice for the defence of the motherland he was awarded with Nishan-e-Haider, highest military award of Pakistan.
