Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday (today) launched Pakistan’s first Green Eurobond to finance Diamer and Mohmand dams.
Pakistan’s first green bond titled ‘Indus Bond’ has been launched by PM Imran Khan in a ceremony held at Islamabad.
The bond issued by Water and Power Development Authority is aimed at raising US$ 500 million for Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dam projects.
Addressing the ceremony, PM Imran Khan apprised of government’s commitment to construct at least 10 dams in the next 10 years to produce clean and green energy as Pakistan is one of the most affected countries by climate change and global warming in the world.

These two water reservoirs will produce 10,000 megawatts of clean and environment- friendly electricity in the country, said PM Imran Khan.
Addressing the threat posed by climate change, the premier noted that the government is effectively working on tree plantation drive under ten billion tree tsunami program as part of its long-term plan to save the next generations as such policies are imperative for development of the country.
Furthermore, 15 special national parks are being established to protect and preserve the natural environment, said PM Imran Khan.
Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin also attended the ceremony and accentuated that Green bond has been becoming popular globally as countries re-orient their policies to join the raise to zero omission.
