TikTok India recently suspended the account of the famous Indian social media personality Faizal Siddiqui, on grounds of multiple violations of community guidelines and topping it all with glorifying acid attacks through his content that had become viral lately. Faizal Siddiqui is the brother of Amir Siddiqui who was recently a part of Youtube versus TikTok controversy with Carry Minati.
India’s TikTok followers, netizens in general and women rights activists have taken serious notice of the harmful content being pushed through the platform and cultivating seriously hazardous lifestyle among youth of the country.
Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of National Commission for Women, called for a ‘total ban’ on TikTok India.
A cybercrime FIR was filed against TikTok star Faizal Siddiqui for encouraging acid attacks on women in his latest video. Many netizens are asking TikTok to remove the video while some others have called for a ban on the platform in India.
India’s Twitter users have given strong reaction to Sddiqui’s video demanding him to be thrown behind the bars for promoting acid attacks on girls who reject marriage or relationship proposals. #BanTikTok India and #Acid were top trends on Twitter recently.
Rekha Sharma said she is taking the matter to both police and TikTok India after BJP MLA Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga flagged the controversial video on Twitter. Sharma on May 19 called for a ‘total ban’ on the platform India.
“Keeping people on TikTok safe is a top priority and we make it clear in our Term of Service and Community Guidelines that clearly outlines what is not acceptable on our platform. As per the policy, we do not allow content that risks safety of others, promotes physical harm or glorifies violence against women. The behaviour in question violates our guidelines and we have taken down content, suspended the account, and are working with law enforcement agencies as appropriate,” according to TikTok’s spokesperson.
Siddiqui claims the video that he uploaded a month back has gone viral because of the ongoing tussle between Youtubers and TikTokers in India. He clarified that the video did not represent acid attack. Nevertheless, he has annoyed people with his misogynistic behavior in the video.
