Candidates who are contesting elections in India’s Uttar Pradesh (UP) have resorted to use dogs for running their election campaign via putting campaign banners and posters on street dogs and letting them roam around.
As per details, at least two candidates, one from Rae Bareli and the other from the Ballia district have reportedly attacked campaign posters to stray dogs.
Visuals of these mobile billboards went viral on social media angering that made animals rights activists angrier one of the candidates admitted to using dogs to spread his message and said he had no regrets.
The candidates have argued that there is no rule in the code of conduct preventing them from using street dogs in the campaign.
No animal was harmed in any way, its just an innovative idea and voters were attracted to this innovation, said one of the candidates.
Meanwhile, animal rights activists have overwhelmingly criticized d the use of dogs as advertising billboards calling for such act to be declared a punishable crime.
How would a man feel if similar stickers were stuck on his face during the election? said animal rights activist Reena Mishra.
Just because dogs could not protest, they should not be treated in such a manner. She requested the police to take action against these candidates, she added.
