Islamabad High Court rejected the petition filed against the establishment of ‘Tiger Force’ by the federal government, on Monday.
Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah directed the petitioner to approach the relevant forum and declared the plea ‘non-maintainable’.
Expressing his views on the petition filed by the Union Council (UC) Rawat, IHC Chief Justice stated, “The court is avoiding interference in the affairs of the executive. This is high time to develop trust in the state and demonstrate national unity to tackle this issue. The federal and provincial governments were taking emergency steps to save the lives of citizens.”
The petitioner had argued that the rescue and relief activities should be performed by the elected representatives at the grassroots level and the government was obligated to discharge certain functions and powers to local body representatives in accordance with the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government Act, 2015.
‘Tiger Force’ is a voluntary force formed on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan to conduct relief work amid the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. Around 920,456 volunteers have registered for the volunteer force which will help federal, provincial and local authorities and institutions in ration distribution amid coronavirus lockdown.
