Sheikh Ansar Aziz – Mayor Islamabad and member Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), has challenged his suspension in Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday.
As per the details, Sheikh Ansar Aziz has filed a petition in IHC challenging his 90-day suspension announced by federal government on Sunday. The petition has named federal government and interior ministry as the concerned parties in the case.
It is imperative to know that earlier, on Sunday, federal government had issued a notification announcing the suspension of Sheikh Ansar Aziz as Mayor Islamabad for 90 days.
According to the notification issued by Joint Secretary Home Ministry Irfan Anjum, Sheikh Ansar Aziz’s suspension was in accordance with section 96, sub-section (1) of Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government Act, 2015 (X of 2015) for the conducting of transparent inquiry against him.
Prior to this, a reference has also been filed against Mr Aziz, accusing him of misusing his authority, his powers, using staff for personal use, and operating official vehicles that were reportedly beyond his entitlement.
Expressing his views on the allegations being made against him, Mr Aziz stated that the government’s decision to suspend him is an act of political victimization and political prejudice in PTI’s government against PML-N.
“The PTI government did not suspend or remove anyone over the ‘sugar scandal’. They played with people’s lives in the medicine scandal and yet again, the PTI government did not remove any of its ministers,” he noted.
