Sir Ian Holm aka ‘Bilbo Baggins’ from Hollywood block busters Lord Of The Rings, and The Hobbit passed away at the age of 88 on Friday.
On Friday, his agent issued a statement stating, “It is with great sadness that the actor Sir Ian Holm CBE passed away this morning at the age of 88.”
Sir Ian Holm was an acclaimed British actor who has well over 100 acting credits to his name, but is best known for his roles in classics such as The Lord of the Rings series.
He was born in Sussex , United Kingdom, and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He started his career at at the Shakespeare Memorial Theater in Stratford-upon-Avon, then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company at its opening in 1960.

His famous works include 1981 award-winning film ‘Chariots of Fire’, The Madness of King George, The Aviator, 1992 children’s series The Borrowers, The Day After Tomorrow, The Fifth Element, and many others.
However, his most iconic role was when he played ‘Bilbo Baggins’ in the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit.
H was awarded knighthood in 1988 for his services and contribution to drama.
Hollywood fraternity has expressed grief over Holm’s demise, terming him as ‘an extraordinary actor’ who will forever be remembered for his talent, skills, services and contribution to the industry.
