Higher Education Commission (HEC), has hinted to introduce direct admissions policy for PhD students in wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
As per the details, HEC is mulling over the possibility of introducing direct admissions for PhD students according to which students will be able to enroll for PhD programmes immediately after completing their undergraduate degree.
According to sources the issue of direct admissions policy for PhD student is included in the agenda of the upcoming HEC meeting.

However, Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has raised objections on the proposal citing its reservation regarding the issues pertaining to the eligibility of students and the preservation of academic standard.
Expressing his views on the issue, Dr. Sohail Yousaf – President FAPUASA has said that BS program in Pakistan is not up to the global standards and this new policy will leave the students unable to apply for foreign universities.
