Sheikh Abdul Rahman Sudais – the imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the president of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques (Harmain Sharifain, has announced that the two Holy mosques of Mecca and Medina will soon again be open for worshipers.
In a video message, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Sudais stated, “I announce to you the best of days (to come by the will of Allah); that we return to prayers in the Haram, Tawaf, seeking, and praying in the honourable Rawdah.”
However, officials have categorically denied the fake news circulating on social media regarding any specific date for re-opening of the mosques.
“We would like to clear that no such dates have been posted by us nor the Ministry or the Officials of the Haramain,” read the statement issued on social media.
The two holy mosques of Mecca and Medina have been closed for worshippers for months due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the kingdom and only mosques’ administrative staff has been offering prayers during lockdown restrictions.
A total of 20,077 confirmed coronavirus cases have been reported in the country, with 152 deaths.
