Former two-time Afghan Prime Minister – Gulbuddin Hekmatyar arrived in Pakistan on a three-day historic visit on Monday (today).
The leader of of Hezb-e-Islami of Afghanistan Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, along with his delegation arrived in Islamabad on a three-day visit to discuss matters pertaining to Afghan Peace Process.
During the visit, Mr. Gulbuddin Hekmatyar will call on the Prime Minister and President and will meet Chairman Senate, Speaker National Assembly, Foreign Minister and other dignitaries. He will deliver a talk at a policy think-tank and interact with the media.
“The visit of Mr. Gulbuddin Hekmatyar will provide an opportunity for exchange of views on the Afghan peace process and strengthening of Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral relations as well as people-to-people interaction,” read the press-release issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Pakistan attaches high importance to its fraternal ties with Afghanistan, rooted deep in shared history, faith, culture, values and traditions. Pakistan fully supports all efforts for peace, stability and prosperity of the Afghan people, the statement added.
Furthermore, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar called on Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to discuss matters of mutual concerns and Afghan Peace Process.
During the meeting, FM Qureshi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment and resolve in ensuring lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The Afghan leadership has a unique opportunity in the form of intra-Afghan talks to restore peace in Afghanistan, he said.
