Federal government has announced its decision to launch Pakistan’s first-ever Esports initiative titled ‘E-PAK’.
In a video statement, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting – Fawad Chaudhry has said that E-PAK initiative will usher a new era for E-Sports in Pakistan.
The initiative is being launched in collaboration with Gerena – a Singapore based game developing company.
Under E-PAK initiative, Pakistan’s first ever national-level E-Sports event ‘Free Fire Pakistan League’ will be held with cooperation from Bigo and Garena.
Children, as young as 12-years-old, who are interested in e-sports have a chance to become millionaires through e-sports, said Fawad Chaudhry.
Around 567 teams will be participating in the national tournament which comprises of prizes of up to Rs 10 million.
Registrations for the tournament will start on 21st July 2021, where the whole tournament is divided into 6 cities. The winning team of this tournament will also qualify for the Free Fire World Series 2021 which is scheduled later this year.
The Esports scenario of Free Fire is also touching new heights day by day where the recently Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore hit the 5 million+ live viewership which is a record for highest peak viewership in any Esports event. Free Fire is one of the most popular games in Pakistan. After hosting first season of FFPL, Garena introduces the Second season of Free Fire Pakistan League 2021.
E-PAK stands for Pakistan’s Elite Gamer Pack, an initiative by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to create a sustainable Esports ecosystem in Pakistan. Through E-PAK, the Ministry will work closely with Esports titles in the country to popularize Esports to the general public and inspire youths to become Esports athletes as a professional career.
This is considered as the next move in the exciting framework from Minister Fawad Chaudry, after he orchestrated the MOU between Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) back in January 2021.
