ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the government is planning to raise a volunteer force to implement relief program and distribute ration to ease the country’s economic trial during the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
He was attending a meeting of parliamentary leaders via video link on Wednesday where he disclosed that the government wants to combat the situation upfront and provide relief to the poor.
He said that the lockdown will impact the economy adversely. He urged for lifting the ban on transport so the supply chain remains unaffected. He also called for a meeting of National Coordination Committee on Thursday to review the situation after lockdown is in effect.
Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza said that the country has currently one thousand corona positive cases.
Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal said the government has released Rs26 billion for acquiring necessary equipment and other things to fight COVID-19.
The meeting was chaired by Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser who also discussed the situation under lockdown and the lasting financial impact it will bear on the national economy.
