Government on Wednesday, reassured of sufficient wheat stocks within the country of around five million metric tonnes.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Syed Fakhar Imam – Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research highlighted that the country has sufficient wheat stocks of around five million metric tonnes.
Meanwhile another one point seven million metric tons will be imported in the country by January 2021 next year.
The private sector is likely to import 700,000 metric tonnes of wheat, whereas Pakistan’s total consumption is around six million tons, he added.
Furthermore, Federal Minister of Industries and Production –Hammad Azhar apprised that country has so far imported 150,000 tonnes of sugar which will eventually be introduced into the local market on strictly controlled and regulated rates.
The federal minister noted that a proposal suggesting an Rs 5 million has been tabled against Sugar Mills which fail to start crushing season well in time.
The government intends to initiate sugarcane crushing season from November 10th next month, said Hammad Azhar.
