Sadiq Sanjrani – Chairman Senate, on Thursday, urged the federal government to permit Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to operate domestic flights in order to facilitate parliamentarians who are expected to attend parliamentary sessions on coronavirus situation in the coming days.
Chairman Senate stressed upon the limited resumption of domestic flight operations so that parliamentarians from all across the country can reach Islamabad to attend the scheduled sessions of both National Assembly and Senate on the coronavirus situation in the country.
However, Sadiq Sanjrani maintained that air operations must be conducted while strictly adhering to all the COVID-19 preventive measures, SOPs and guidelines recommended by medical experts.
It is to be noted that National Assembly is scheduled to host a session on coronavirus crisis next week. While on Wednesday, 34 opposition senators had written to Chairman Senate, asking him to call a session of the upper house as well.
The agenda formulated by the opposition also includes the discussion on the government’s steps in dealing with the coronavirus outbreak, economic repercussions of the virus pandemic, issues pertaining to national security and foreign policy, Indian atrocities in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and segregation and marginalization of Muslims in India amid virus outbreak.
In addition to it, the Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, on Wednesday, had announced that National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has already approved the resumption of domestic flight operations and the final decision will be made by the approval of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
