Ajmal Wazir – Adviser to Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, on Wednesday, announced that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is utilizing all its resources to increase the COVID-19 testing capacity in the province.
Speaking at a press conference, Ajmal Wazir stated that currently 1,500 COVID-19 tests are being conducted in the province and the government intends to increase this number to 2,000 tests per day.
“Government is taking steps for the protection of people from coronavirus pandemic and planning to reinstate some necessary business activities in specific timing to fulfil the requirements of people,” he noted.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported the highest COVID-19 death toll in the country, with 194 recorded deaths so far along with 3,499 coronavirus cases in the province in total.
The government spokesman also highlighted the significance of abiding to the social distancing measures issued by government, urging people to remain inside their homes and abstain from going out unless absolutely necessary.
The only way to curb the virus spread and to protect one’s family is via adhering to healthcare guidelines and SOPs recommended by medical experts, he added.
Furthermore, Ajmal Wazir stated that any decision regarding the easing or extension of lockdown will be taken in accordance with the instructions of National Coordination Committee (NCC).
