The Ministry of Information is to propose a new media policy for social and digital media advertising, according to Minister of Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Friday during a press briefing about the earlier meeting of national Coordination Committee.
The National Coordination Committee met under the chair of Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad. The meeting discussed issues related to concerns of media houses and gatekeeping of foreign exchange movement abroad from Pakistan.
The PM met journalists who are operating their own YouTube channels. The PM said it is important that the youth cam access latest technology as social and digital media is developing fast across the world.
Dr Awan said a new policy pertaining to social and digital media advertising will be proposed soon though which advertisement will be channeled to these platforms.
“Journalists who own Youtube and other sdigital media outlets must apply for an accreditation card from Press Information Department as part of this policy to operate their private channels. A registration desk is being established at the PID for this purpose,” the minister said.
She added that the PM wishes to empower youth in fight against coronavirus. Apart from this, courses to train youth in use of social media platform will also be introduced.
