The federal government, on Friday, has announced its decision to permit Muharram processions with strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).
According to details, President Arif Alvi met with various Shia Ulemas at Aiwan-e-Sadr (President House) on Friday and mulled over the issue of Muharram procession amid COVID-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, the President of Pakistan lauded the role of religious scholars and leaders for abiding and adhering to government SOPs and recommendations during Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr in wake of coronavirus crisis.

The government has allowed Muharram processions to be carried out under strict coronavirus SOPs and guidelines to prevent the virus spread.
Meanwhile, Minister for Religious Affairs Dr. Noor-ul-Haque Qadri has stated that unanimously agreed SOPs have been formulated which will be forwarded to provincial governments and Ulemas after the approval of National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).
