President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan, in their separate messages on the occasion of Labour Day, reiterated government’s commitment and resolve aimed at the welfare and prosperity of labour force in Pakistan.
In his message, President Dr Arif Alvi lauded the role of labour force in the development of the country and highlighted the significance of their struggle against hardships and inauspicious working conditions and policies.
He stated, “This year we are celebrating the Labour Day with the resolve to reaffirm our commitment to the dignity of labour and to pay tribute to the valiant and heroic struggle of the workers for their fundamental rights.”
“We believe that workers and employers are partners in the production process and their cooperation is essential for industrial efficiency and ultimately for socioeconomic development of the country,” he added.
Prime Minister Imran Khan in his separate message, on the occasion of Labour Day, reiterated his government’s resolve to ensure the protection and preservation of their rights and reaffirmed his commitment to assist the labour force against the economic repercussions of coronavirus lockdown in the country.
“1st of May, the International Workers’ Day, reminds us of the sacrifices of the workers who laid down their lives for their rights. The day symbolizes the sanctity and dignity of labour,” he noted.
Highlighting the significance of labourers in Islam, Prime Minister stated, “Our religion emphasizes the principles of social justice and respect for the rights of people. Our Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) himself worked on occasions including Ghazwa-e-Khandaq to demonstrate respect for work. Respect for hard work and recognition of the rights of workers are extremely important in the process of progress,”
Furthermore, PM Imran Khan reaffirmed PTI government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of the labour force, stating that the government is focused on introducing vocational training and skills development initiatives to ensure a better and improved standard of life for the labour force in the country.
