Tech giant Google has altered its ‘doodle’ to pay tribute and honour healthcare workers around the world who are risking their lives treating coronavirus patients.
Google has a new Doodle, special Google logo, upon its home page to thank the coronavirus helpers. More than 100 doctors and nurses around the world have lost their lives while treating patients, including at least one doctor last week in the U.S., who was the first emergency physician to have died after showing COVID-19 symptoms.
The Doodle, when clicked reads a message stating, “Today, we’d like to say: To all the public health workers and to researchers in the scientific community, thank you.”
“As COVID-19 continues to impact communities around the world, people are coming together to help one another now more than ever. Over the coming weeks, we’re launching a Doodle series to recognize and honour many of those on the front lines,” the message adds.
The decision to change Google’s doodle is part of the initiative/series started by the tech giant to express gratitude to various service members such as transportation, grocery store employees, agriculture workers etc.
On Monday, Google saluted grocery store employees as they continue to provide essential household items to the public. Before that Google honoured agricultural workers, who keep the food flowing to the marketplace.
Around 1.92 million people around the world have been infected by COVID-19 coronavirus, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, with more than 119,500 deaths.
