Federal government has decided to give provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan via constitutional amendment.
As per the details, government has decided to give provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan via amendment in Article 1 and Article 51, along with further amendments in Articles 257 and Article 258 of the constitution of Pakistan.
The constitutional amendments will elevate the status of Gilgit-Baltistan and will ensure the provision of all constitutional rights, including its representation in the Senate and the National Assembly.
Earlier, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, had said that PM Imran Khan is expected to visit the region in near future to make the formal announcement himself.
“After consultation with all stakeholders, the federal government has decided in principle to give constitutional rights to Gilgit-Baltistan,” he stated.
