France urges Israel to drop its West Bank annexation plans, stating that the move will further destabilize the region.
French President Emmanuel Macron, on Thursday, held a telephonic conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging him to refrain from further annexing territory in West Bank.
“Emmanuel Macron emphasized that such a move would contravene international law and jeopardize the possibility of a two-state solution as the basis of a fair and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians,” said the statement issued by the French President’s office.
The development comes as Germany, Egypt and Jordan have already warned Israel of negative repercussions of its plans to annex territory in West Bank.

It is to be noted that Israel had earlier announced to annex Jewish settlements in West Bank as part of Israeli territory – a move endorsed by United States’ Middle East Plan formulated by Jared Kushner and announced by US President Donald Trump.
The Middle East Plan which was unveiled back in January 2020, was essentially rejected by Palestine and every other Arab State, who termed it as ‘Israel centric’ and that it effectively legalizes Israeli occupation and violation of UN laws and other international conventions.
