Former Defense Minister and Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar passed away in Lahore on Wednesday (today).
As per details, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar was reportedly suffering from Alzheimer’s and was admitted to the Shalimar Hospital.
The veteran politician passed away on Wednesday (today) at the age of 74.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology – Chaudhry Fawad Hussain took to social media to offer condolences and pay homage to the deceased.
Who was Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar?
Born in Lahore, Ahmad Mukhtar did his Operational Management from California, United States and a Diploma in Plastic Technology from West Germany. Mukhtar was also a graduate of Forman Christian College University. He was a businessman who started his political career in 1990 on PPP platform
He was an industrialist and served as Commerce Minister in the 1993–1996 Benazir Bhutto government. Ahmad Mukhtar also served as Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) chairman in May 2008.
Mukhtar served as Defense Minister in Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani’s cabinet as part of the the coalition government of PPP, PML-N, ANP and JUI-F formed after 2008 elections on 31 March 2008.
He was also a businessman and owned Servis Group which is operating through a network of more than 450 retail company stores nationwide and also supplies its products to over 2500 independent retailers in Pakistan.
