Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan on Friday, strongly rebuked false rumors regarding Pakistani troops fighting in Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict, terming such reports as ‘irresponsible’.
According to the press-release issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), media report claiming Pakistani army fighting alongside Azerbaijani forces against Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh is ‘speculative and baseless’.
Furthermore, Pakistan has expressed concerns over e deteriorating security situation in Nagorno-Karabakh region.
“The intensive shelling by Armenian forces on civilian populations of Azerbaijan is reprehensible and most unfortunate. This could compromise peace and security of the entire region. Armenia must stop its military action to avoid further escalation,” the statement added.
It is pertinent to know that Pakistan fully supports Azerbaijan’s position on Nagorno-Karabakh, which is in line with the several unanimously adopted United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Armenia and Azerbaijan are currently involved in an armed conflict over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region contested by both countries.
The ongoing armed conflict erupted on September 27, Sunday. Azerbaijan has around 2,300 Armenian troops being killed or wounded in the conflict.
Meanwhile, Armenia has claimed around 400 military casualties on the Azerbaijan’s side.
