Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with his Iraqi counterpart, the duo mulled over bilateral relations and agreed to ensure steps aimed at facilitating Pakistani zaireen who visit Iraq.
According to MoFA, FM Qureshi and Iraqi Foreign Minister Dr Fuad Hussein met on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on Thursday a day earlier.
Good to meet FM Dr Fuad Hussein today in follow up to our meeting in Iraq last month. Exchanged on a diversity of bilateral relations, the Afghanistan Peace Process and the imperative for peace in Palestine. During the meeting, both dignitaries recalled their recent engagement during Foreign Minister Qureshi’s visit to Iraq in May 2021.
FM Qureshi accentuated the significance of liberalizing the visa regime for facilitating Pakistani zaireen visiting the religious sites in Iraq. Both Foreign Ministers also exchanged best practices in promoting religious tourism.
The foreign minister also apprised his Iraqi counterpart on the latest situation in Afghanistan and underscored Pakistan’s abiding interest in a peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan along with consistent efforts to facilitate the Afghan peace process.
The duo agreed to continue the positive momentum in the bilateral relationship including through increased high-level interaction.
FM Qureshi also reiterated the invitation to his Iraqi counterpart to visit Pakistan to further strengthen bilateral relations.
