Pakistan was facing the biggest challenge in form of floods today, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said while addressing a cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday.
“Floods have caused massive destruction in the country,” he said while describing the scale of devastation. The disaster has affected more than 33 million of the population.
The premier while recalling the history of the 1965 war and called for united efforts to tackle the crisis.
The nation was celebrating the 58th Defence Day in solidarity with the flood victims of the country.
“The Defence Day is celebrated every year on September 6th to revitalise the national spirit, remember and eulogise the sacrifices of the martyrs, who spilled their blood for the security of the sacred motherland and marked an exemplary history of patriotism,” Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
The day began with the 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salute in provincial capitals whereas a change of guard ceremony was held at the Mazar-e-Quaid and a change of guards’ ceremony was held by the smartly turned out contingent of the Pakistan Air Force.
