The government of Sindh has halted the addition of a second layer of fences to cordon off Frere hall premises after public outrage over the first layer of fencing.
The historic place is being managed and maintained by a group called the Guardian Board who according to Sindh government took it upon themselves to fence the area.
An agreement was made on this between the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the Guardian Board when Wasim Akhtar was Karachi’s mayor. It was done for the betterment of Frere Hall, but the condition of the historic building has yet to improve.
The Karachi administrator Iftikhar Shahlwani said KMC has scheduled a cleaning campaign at Frere Hall on Sunday.
All fences, he said, would be removed.
