Federal government has taken over administrative control of Karachi’s three major hospitals namely JPMC, NICVD and NICH amid Sindh government’s protest.
As per details, federal government has initiated the administrative takeover of Karachi’s three major hospitals namely Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and National Institute of Child Health (NICH).
Federal government has directed an independent four-member Board Of Governors to run JPMC under Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Ordinance 2020.
Mushtaq Chhapra, Ronaq Lakhani, Dr Mohammad Irfan Dawoodi and Rashid Khan have been included in the Board Of Governors has center’s representatives.
Meanwhile, Sindh government has opposed federal government’s decision to takeover medical institutions terming it as a complex and sub judice’ matter.
Sindh government has also declined to recommend names for members of Board Of Governors, said spokesperson for the Sindh Health Department.
Sindh Health Minister – Dr Azra Pechuho has argued that the change in administration will have adverse effects on ‘service delivery’ of these health institutions.
“It never happens this way. How come they are going to run these facilities with people sitting in Islamabad and monitoring service delivery in Karachi?” she said.
It is to be noted that Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) in its verdict, had directed to transfer the administrative control of JPMC, NICVD and NICH to the federal government.
