Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry has hinted on a ‘new mechanism’ to be devised for next elections.
In a statement, Fawad Chaudhry has apprised that the government has complement all essential arrangements for electronic voting machines (EVMs) and that the next elections will be held under a ‘new mechanism’.
The federal minister noted that the government had promised the right to vote to Pakistani expatriates abroad and it intends to fulfil that promise.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology – Shibli Faraz will hold a press conference which will also include a practical demonstration of EVM.
Meanwhile, Babar Awan – Advisor to PM Imran Khan on Parliamentary Affairs has also confirmed that 2023 General Elections will be held using electronic voting.
Prior to this, in a statement Shibli Faraz had supported electronic voting contending that it will ensure free, fair and transparent elections and will also allow seven million overseas Pakistanis to vote in Pakistani elections.
A law has been promulgated authorizing and binding the ECP to procure EVMs as well as enabling overseas Pakistanis to exercise their right to vote while staying in their country of residence in the next general elections, he had said.
