Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on PTI’s Faisal Vawda in disqualification case.
As per details, ECP has fined Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda for his failure to appear in disqualification case despite several warnings and notices.
ECP has directed Faisal Vawda to appear in-person on the next hearing scheduled on February 24.
The five-member ECP bench hearing disqualification case against Faisal Vawda is being headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja.
During the hearing, Faisal Vawda’s assistant counsel – Hasnain Ali Chohan appeared before the court seeking adjournment of the case citing Muhammad bin Mohsin’ (Faisal Vawda’s lawyer) unavailability due to matters pertaining to Lahore High Court (LHC)
However, ECP chief reprimanded Faisal Vawda’s defense counsel over the federal minister’s absence during the hearing.
It is pertinent to know that Amun Taraqqi Party chief Faiq Shah had filed a petition in ECP seeking disqualification of Faisal Vawda under Article 62(i)(f) of the Constitution for lying about his US citizenship in the nomination papers of 2018 General Elections.
