Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Thursday (today), has said that entire Pakistani nation pays tribute to Burhan Wani Shaheed – the freedom fighter who was martyred by Indian forces in IIOJK in 2016.
FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi took to social media to pay tribute to Burhan Wani Shaheed who laid down his life while fighting against illegal Indian occupation of the disputed valley.
The foreign minister stressed that India must realize that it cannot suppress and subdue Kashmiris’ legitimate struggle for freedom and independence via force.
Meanwhile, in a statement Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) also paid homage to Burhan Wani Shaheed whose martyrdom sparked a renewed vigor into Kashmiris’ struggle for independence.
On the fifth martyrdom anniversary of prominent Kashmiri youth leader Burhan Muzaffar Wani, we pay tribute to his selfless contribution to the just struggle for right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people, and through him to the oppressed people of IIOJK, read the MoFA press-release.
The Foreign Office also noted that Burhan Wani’s martyrdom has come to rightly symbolize the indigenous Kashmiri struggle against the illegal Indian occupation. Since his martyrdom in 2016, hundreds of Kashmiri youth have lost their lives at the hands of Indian occupation forces in the disputed valley.
Burhan Wani’s martyrdom anniversary should serve as a reminder to India to end its egregious human rights violations in IIOJK, and take concrete steps towards resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute as per the UNSC resolutions. We also call upon the int’l community to play its due role in this regard, it added.
Burhan Wani along with two associates was martyred by Indian troops in a fake encounter in Kokernag area of Islamabad district on July 8, 2016. Burhan Wani’s extrajudicial killing triggered a mass uprising in the occupied territory and during the anti-India demonstrations in the following several months, Indian troops and police killed over 120 innocent protesters.
