Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), on Saturday, has approved the provision of emergency cash assistance to the labour force in the country amid COVID-19 crisis.
As per the details, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh – Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue chaired a meeting of ECC in Islamabad, announcing the approval of emergency cash assistance to the labour force of the country who have been facing grim economic repercussions of coronavirus crisis and its resulting lockdown.
According to the new policy, Rs 12,000 will be distributed to the labourers across the country. The one-time payment will be made via existing mechanism of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), meanwhile all the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and Islamabad will receive quota in Ehsaas Labour assistance in accordance with their population share.
The development comes as, Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 3, had announced that the donations from PM’s COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Assistance Fund 2020 will be directed towards helping labour force also.
