The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has reportedly approved Russian Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in Pakistan.
As per details, DRAP has approved Russia’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use under Section VII of Drug Act 1976 of Pakistan.
It is to be noted that Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine can be administered to people who are aged 18 years old and above. Meanwhile, vaccine is required to be stored at a temperature of -18 °C.
The development comes as a local Karachi-based pharmaceutical company had sought DRAP’s approval for importing Russian Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine to be used in Pakistan.
It is pertinent to know that Pakistan launched nationwide COVID-19 vaccination process on February 3rd last week to curb the spread of novel virus in the country.
The COVID-19 vaccination drive was launched simultaneously in federal capital along with provincial capitals namely Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar, said National Command and Operations Center (NCOC).
Pakistan received 500,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses from China on February 1st earlier this month. The COVID-19 vaccine has been manufactured by a Chinese state owned company ‘Sinopharm’.
