Dr Satish Rohra – a flag bearer of Sindhi intellectual heritage and a notable scholar passed away on Wednesday February 24th.
Dr Satish Rohra originally hailed from Dadu Pakistan, and was a Sindhi scholar, poet, short-story writer, critic who made notable contributions to the revival of Sindhi language on a global scale
He also founded ‘Institute of Sindhology’ which is a center for advanced studies and research in the fields related to Sindhi Language, Literature, Education, Art and Culture.
From its inception, the institute has conceived the idea of developing itself into a Cultural University. Its primary aim is to preserve and promote the Cultural heritage of Sindhi Community and ensure its continuity by disseminating it in the younger generation.
Dr Satish Rohra was awarded with the prestigious ‘Academy Award’ for his book ‘Kavita Khan Kavita Tayeen’ in 2004. Satish Rohra authored ed more than 20 books and travelled to several countries including USA, UK, Canada, Hong Kong, France, Japan propagating and highlighting the significance and uniqueness of Sindhi language and intellectual heritage.
Various organizations, platforms such as Sindhi Sahitya Academy, National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language have recognized and praised his contributions for Sindhi language and his place among Sindhi academia.
Saeen Satish Rohra’s demise has been termed as a great loss for Sindhi people, language, culture and academia.
