KARACHI: The greenback has taken another leap over the Paksitani rupee as the week commenced.
The US dollar traded at Rs167 after appreciating by Rs0.24 over interbank on Monday. The greenback traded at its highest mark – Rs168 – at the closing of previous week.
It gained Rs6.87 during the last week, one of the steepest inclines since the coronavirus pandemic came to the forefront.
As COVID-19 cases are declining in numbers, especially deaths, Asian markets rose Monday, providing some much-needed hope in the battle against the coronavirus, though oil prices were rocked as meeting of top producers delays.
Friday data showed a massive drop in US jobs in March that added to news that millions of people had applied for unemployment benefits.
Tokyo went two percent higher, whereas Sydney also piled on more than two percent.
Seoul also added nearly two percent. Hong Hong was up 1.1 percent and Singapore, Manila and Jakarta were all more than one percent higher.
