Director General Inter Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) – Major General Babar Iftikhar has once again reiterated Pakistan’s support for Afghan Peace Process, saying that India is losing its anti-Pakistan investment made in the neighboring country.
Speaking to ARY News on Saturday (today), DG ISPR Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar stressed that Pakistan is a ‘facilitator’ in Afghan Peace Process and not a ‘guarantor’.
Highlighting Pakistan’s stance on the issue, the military spokesperson reiterated that there is no military solution to Afghan issue and that it can only be solved via talks and negotiations.
Guns had been unable to decide over the past two decades and won’t be able to do so in future, said DG ISPR.
Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment and contribution aimed towards a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
We have been and will continue to work for peace and some news were also coming from Afghanistan, he said.
Addressing the issue of possible civil war in Afghanistan and its repercussions on Pakistan, the army’s spokesperson apprised that around 90% of 2,611-kilometer-long Pak-Afghan border has already been fenced as part of Pakistan’s border management strategy.
We have already made preparations citing possibilities of civil war in Afghanistan, noted DG ISPR.
Maj Gen Babar Ifitikhar also echoed Pakistan’s principle stance that it will accept whatever the people of Afghanistan decide and that Pakistan has no ‘favorites’ in this matter.
Resonating government’s position on giving US bases within Pakistan, DG ISPR noted that ‘there is no need for US bases’ in the country and that US troops’ withdrawal has been executed in haste which has led to instability in Afghanistan.
DG ISPR’s remarks come as Afghanistan has witnessed an exponential increase in violence and instability due to Taliban’s advance across the country amid US troops’ withdrawal.
