Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Faiz Hameed has categorically turned down the allegations made by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani accusing of ‘infiltration’ from Pakistani side on Pak-Afghan border.
Speaking to a private media outlet in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, DG ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hameed rebuked Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s allegations regarding infiltration from Pakistan along Pak-Afghan border and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment towards peace and stability in Pakistan.
We want peace in the neighboring country as a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan and other countries, said DG ISI.
We are interested in a negotiated settlement among all the Afghan groups, added Lt Gen Faiz Hameed.
The rebuttal comes following President Ashraf Ghani’s remarks at Central and South Asia Conference 2021 in Tashkent Uzbekistan in which the Afghan premier had hurled baseless accusations against Pakistan blaming it for playing a ‘negative role’.
It is to be noted that DG ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hameed is accompanying PM Imran Khan on his two-day visit to Uzbekistan and had held delegation level talks with President Ashraf Ghani and his team on the sidelines of the conference.
Sources say that during the meeting, DG ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hameed stressed that the infiltration is being done from the Afghan side as Pakistani soldiers and military checkposts along Pak-Afghan border are being targeted from militants from within Afghanistan.
Afghan premier’s remarks were also rejected by PM Imran Khan who termed such allegations as ‘unfair’.
Blaming Pakistan for what is going on in Afghanistan is extremely unfair…peace in Afghanistan is our foremost priority, said PM Imran Khan.
Responding to Ashraf Ghani’s accusations, the prime minister also underscored that Pakistan has the most to lose in case of turmoil in Afghanistan and that it had contributed more than any other country to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
