CyberKnife treatment utilized by overseas Pakistanis as well as local patients, says Murtaza Wahab
Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab has stated that CyberKnife treatment provided at Jinnah Post graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) has immensely benefitted local patients as well as overseas Pakistanis.
In a statement, Murtaza Wahab rebuked the criticism on Sindh government regarding the poor health services available in the province stating that the CyberKnife treatment provided to cancer patients at JPMC has even attracted overseas Pakistanis to come to Sindh for this state of the art cancer treatment provided free of cost, whereas hospitals around the world charge huge amounts for this service.
“Those who resort to unnecessary criticism should know that we do not resort to lies and U-turns,” he noted.
What is CyberKnife treatment?
The CyberKnife System is a non-invasive treatment for cancerous and non-cancerous tumours and other conditions where radiation therapy is indicated. It is used to treat conditions throughout the body, including the prostate, lung, brain, spine, head and neck, liver, pancreas and kidney, and can be an alternative to surgery or for patients who have inoperable or surgically complex tumours. CyberKnife treatments are typically performed in 1 to 5 sessions.
The system features a linear accelerator (linac) directly mounted on a robot to deliver the high-energy x-rays or photons used in radiation therapy. The robot moves and bends around the patient, approaching the tumour from thousands of unique angles, significantly expanding the possible positions to concentrate radiation to the tumour while minimizing dose to surrounding healthy tissue.
