PM’s Special Assistant on Health – Dr Zafar Mirza, has been reprimanded by Prime Minister Imran Khan on his failure to satisfy the judiciary on government’s COVID-19 strategy.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Wednesday, stressed that Dr Zafar Mirza should have presented a more conclusive and satisfactory response to the questions raised by apex court over government’s strategy to combat COVID-19 outbreak.
Earlier, Supreme Court Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed had raised concerns over the capability and credentials of Dr Zafar Mirza and his capacity to adequately deal with the virus crisis.
“Zafar Mirza only comes on the television for projections,” he noted.
The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan, on April 13, while hearing a suo motu case regarding COVID-19 crisis in the country had criticized over government’s army of ministers, and remarking that that the government had not done anything at this point to stem the spread of the virus.
Heading the five-member larger bench of the apex court, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed ordered the removal of Dr Zafar Mirza on his failure to contain the virus spread in the country.
Following court’s remarks, a social media campaign began criticizing the judiciary. Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Wednesday, ordered Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to look into this malicious campaign targeting Pakistan’s judiciary.
“Campaigns and offensive words against the chief justice and the judiciary will not be tolerated. Such elements should be given immediate and strict punishment,” said the Prime Minister.
