Chairman of Prime Minister’s Taskforce on Science and Technology – Dr Atta-ur-Rahman has said that COVID-19 vaccine trials will commence from this week.
According to details, University of Karachi’s International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) will begin COVID-19 trials this week.
The COVID-19 vaccine trials will be conducted in collaboration with Indus Hospital Karachi, he added.
The first phase is expected to be completed within three months, whereas phase three will be completed by six months.
The price of the vaccine can only be revealed once the manufacturing process has started, said Dr Atta-ur-Rahman.
Prior to this, Federal Minister for Planning and Development – Asad Umar had announced that Pakistan was to participate in the Phase 3 trials of a Chinese origin COVID-19 vaccine.
Furthermore, Dr Atta-ur-Rahman revealed that the vaccine will be produced by a well acclaimed international company.
We were in contact with several international companies for vaccine production after which one major international company has agreed to conduct clinical trials of their vaccine in Pakistan, he noted.
