Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Tuesday, announced the commencement of Phase 3 trials of COVID-19 vaccine in Pakistan from today.
According to the federal minister, around 40,000 people are expected to participate in phase 3 trials of COVID-19 vaccine across seven nations.
Out of the total participants, eight to ten thousand will be Pakistani nationals, said Asad Umar.
The vaccine is being developed by a Chinese company. The initial trial results are expected within a period of four to six months.
Earlier, Chairman of Prime Minister’s Taskforce on Science and Technology, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman had announced that COVID-19 vaccine trials were soon to be commenced in the country.
The trials were to be conducted by University of Karachi’s Centre for chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) in collaboration with Indus Hospital Karachi.
The first phase is expected to be completed within three months, whereas the phase three will be concluded in six months, he said.
