The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has completed its COVI-19 vaccine trials involving 3,000 volunteers.
As per details, UHS conducted clinical trials of Chinese COVID-19 vaccine and a ceremony was held on Wednesday (today) upon the completion of trials.
Prof Javed Akram – Vice Chancellor UHS and Chinese experts attended the cake cutting ceremony marking the notable achievement against prevailing coronavirus pandemic.
It is pertinent to know that Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar along with his wife have already received COVID-19 vaccine shots at UHS Lahore.
Meanwhile, Federal Minster Ijaz Shah has also been vaccinated at the varsity along with his staff members.
The development comes as Pakistan’s COVID-19 death toll surpassed 9,000 mark with country’s death tally standing at 9,010 casualties with a mortality rate of 2.27 per cent.
Prior to this, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, head of PM’s National Task Force on Science and Technology, had said that COVID-19 vaccine will be available in Pakistan in two months.
Clinical trials are already underway in Pakistan of ‘Ad5’ vaccine – a COVID-19 vaccine Chinese company CanSino Biologics and the Institute of Biology at the China’s Academy of Military Medical Sciences.
The Ad5 vaccine contains a modified strain of adenovirus (cold virus) comprising of genetic material of COVID-19 coronavirus.
Pakistan’s COVID-19 tally stands at 445,977 cases, whereas a total of 388,598 people have successfully recovered from the novel virus and 2,510 are still in critical condition.
