Saudi Arabia has suspended all PIA flights to the kingdom amid increasing COVID-19 cases.
In a recent development, Saudi government has suspended Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight to the kingdom over COVID-19 concerns.
The flight suspension has come in effect from today.
The development comes as earlier Saudi authorities had suspended entry into the country on temporary basis after the discovery of a new strain of COVID-19 coronavirus in United Kingdom (UK).
The new COVID-19 strain is said to be more contagious.
According to PIA spokesperson, the airline has suspended 18 flights scheduled to take off for Saudi Arabia on Monday (today).
PIA has asked passengers to reach out to the airline on UAN 11-786-786 for further details.
It is pertinent to know that British PM Boris Johnson on Saturday had revealed that the new COVID-19 strain discovered in UK is around 70 per cent more infectious and presumably more dangerous too.
The new COVID-19 strain was discovered via Public Health England’s genomic surveillance, said England’s Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty.
Following the discovery, countries including France, Netherlands and several others have imposed travel restrictions on travel to and from United Kingdom.
Other countries that have imposed UK travel restrictions include Germany, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Estonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Ireland, Canada, Turkey, Iran, Israel, Kuwait, Argentina, El Salvador, Morocco and Chile.
