Pakistan is likely to start domestic production of CanSinoBio COVID-19 vaccine from May next month.
According to National Institute of Health (NIH), essential arrangements have already been made regarding domestic production of CanSinoBio COVID-19 vaccine.
The raw materials for the vaccine are expected to reach Pakistan in early May following which the country will start local production of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, Chinese experts in Islamabad are also assisting Pakistani officials regarding issues pertaining to domestic production of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The domestic production of CanSinoBio vaccine is a joint venture between NIH and a Chinese company.
The locally produce COVID-19 vaccine will comprise of sigle-dose and is expected to be in the market till the end of May next month.
It is pertinent to know that Pakistan launched its first COVID-19 vaccination programme on February 3rd after receiving 500,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses from China’s Sinopharm on February 1st.
The COVID-19 vaccination drive was launched simultaneously in federal capital along with provincial capitals namely Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar.
Meanwhile the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination was launched on March 10th. The second phase of COVID-19 inoculation will focus on people who are aged 60 or above, as they’re more vulnerable to the novel virus.
The number of daily COVID-19 inoculation crossed 100,000 mark on Tuesday a day earlier, whereas the total number of people vaccinated against the novel virus in Pakistan has surpassed 2 million mark.
According to Ministry of National Health Services, people above the age of 60 can get themselves registered via sending a text message at 1166 or can visit (NIMS) website.
Meanwhile, Pakistan on Tuesday started registration for COVID-19 vaccine for the people above the age of 40.
